5 Steps to Destroying Candida Overgrowth

Step 1 – Cut off The Food Supply For Candida

Completely cut out refined carbohydrates like white flour, refined sugars, fruit juices and honey. Don’t give in to your sweet cravings. Candida hates healthy diets full of vegetables and quality proteins. Also try to avoid all fruit at first.

Step 2 – Get Rid of Drugs, Chemicals and Toxins

Try to get rid of any antibiotics that you are taking that you can afford to go off of (such as doxycycline). Also, if you can, try to go off of birth control pills whenever possible. Cut out animal protein/products that are commercially produced because they will contain hormone residues and antibiotics that were fed to the animals as they were raised. When you eat these foods you will be ingesting the same hormones and antibiotics. Replace them with organic products instead. Stay away from any environmental chemicals and pollution/fumes. This will help to give your immune system a chance to rest and give it more energy to devote to killing Candida.

Step 3 – Cut Out Possible Allergies and Food Intolerances

Food sensitivities are common with Candida. Cut out anything you suspect you may be allergic to such as milk products, gluten, wheat etc. This will help to give your immune system a rest because it won’t have to deal with possible allergies and food intolerances and will have more energy to deal with fighting Candida. Cut out anything that contains yeast in the ingredients and cut out all breads because they are also yeast promoting.

Step 4 – Avoid Yeast Spores

If you live in a damp, cold place that is prone to mould, this will make your Candida worse. Mould spores are released invisibly by the millions into the air by mould in areas such as bathroom, kitchen and around leaking pipes in walls. Remove the mould or move out to a dry sunny spot.

Step 5 – Kill the Yeast

What we want to do is get the yeast back down to its natural low level in the body by suppressing it and increasing our good intestinal bacteria.

Here are some supplements that will help:

Garlic – Garlic suppresses and kills most forms of detrimental fungi, bacteria, protozoan and viruses. It is best to eat it fresh, but if you don’t like garlic you can buy odourless capsules. Try to eat garlic daily.

Caprylic Acid – Caprylic acid is one of the most potent and effective anti-fungal supplement you can take. Try taking it 3 times a day for 6-8 weeks then carry on taking it about twice a day. It’s from coconuts (it’s just in a more concentrated form), so eating coconut oil every day really works. I find taking a tablespoon of coconut oil every day will really help to kill candida overgrowth and also has many other health benefits.

Probiotic Supplement – Find a good quality probiotic supplement or eat foods containing probiotics and good bacteria such as kombucha or kefir. Make sure to take a probiotic supplement about twice a day. Take them separately from food or other supplements – a good idea is once in the morning and once before bed.

Vitamins, Minerals & Omega3,6,9 – This is important since Candida taxes the body’s own reserves of vitamins and minerals. Take a quality multi vitamin every day, along with a quality Omega3 supplement.

Pau d’arco Tea – This is a South American tea that has many health benefits and is great for treating candida and infections. Try to sip on it during the day. It may even help to add some herbal tinctures to it.

Acidophilus Yoghurt – yoghurt containing acidophilus live cultures will help to replenish good bacteria in your gut which will help to fight candida overgrowth.

Do not eat:

- Packaged or processed foods
- Sugar and sugar-containing foods
- Breads, pastries and baked goods
- Alcohol
- Condiments, sauces, and vinegar-containing foods
- Malt products (including cereals)
- Processed and smoked meats
- Edible fungi
- Melons
- Fruit juices and soda
- Coffee and tea
- Dried and canned fruits
- Leftovers (moulds and bacterial spores grow in leftover refrigerated foods)

It will take a while to kill of Candida, so you will have to be patient and stick to the diet guidelines for a couple of months, but it will be worth it! I’ll be covering more on specifically how to fight acne with diet in upcoming posts, so it would be beneficial to include the guidelines for eradicating Candida with your acne diet plan.
